Cholocate Chip??

YES! You read it right, Chocolate Chip star fish is the common name of our adopted animal whereas the scientifical name is called Protoreaster nodosus.

The reason we choose starfish is simply because of the curiosity of our team to explore something different. Thus, we will spend our entire semester observing and get inspired by it!

Thanks to Google map, we manage to locate an awesome aquatic center which is located right beside Subang airport named Aquatic International SDN. BHD. where we manage to obtain this extraordinary sea creatures here.

Aquatic International SDN. BHD.

OUR STARFISH!
They just chillin in the tank~~

So you might be wondering why do they named in such an odd way as "Chocolate Chip star fish". This is because their upper body is filled with chocolaty thorn like knobs which function as a meant to deter predators, by making them difficult to be swallowed WHOLE!

Thus their name is originated based on their look. Interesting thing about this is, it can also be applied to Biomimetics!

So we hope that this little interesting fact will help us in attracting you to join us through our upcoming Biomimicry journey and stay tune for more interesting facts and discovery!

Introducing Our Team!

Greetings fellow earthlings!

We are a group of 6 individuals consisting from both Mechanical and Chemical Engineering backgrounds. We were formed under a group assignment for the module Engineering and Biomimetic, ENG4223 at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus, Selangor. This assignment requires the us to adopt a living creature and study its characteristics. This is to stimulate ideas for the potential use of bio-mimicry in engineering design. Within the 14 weeks of our semester, we are required to observe our adopted creature and express our thoughts and findings through this blog.

Dr. Yong Leng Chuan, our lecturer for this module has kindly provided us a post content guideline for us to follow. The following table shows the post content for the semester:

Therefore, for this week, we will give a slight introduction to our group members.
Firstly, let us introduce you to Chiang Lin Chern, also known as Eason. He is currently studying under the discipline of Mechanical Engineering. He turns 22 years old on the November 20th. He's hometown is in Malacca and came up to Selangor to further his studies. He recently completed his internship with Panasonic HA Air-conditioning R&D (M) Sdn Bhd. He's interest is music.

Our second member is Chong Chiang Hoong, also known as Charles. He was selected to be our leader for this assignment. Charles will be turning 23 years old on 18th June. He is originally from Miri, Sawarak and came to Peninsular Malaysia to continue his tertiary education. He is currently pursuing Mechanical Engineering. He has recently completed his internship at Sealink Shipyard Sdn Bhd.

Jason Gan Boon Hoe. He is currently studying Chemical Engineering. He turns 23 years old in November 19th. He lives in Rawang, Selangor. He recently completed his internship at Can One Berhad. He is interested in music and reading.

Stephanie Lai Shen Ai turned 22 on 26th February. She is currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She completed her industrial training with Siemens Malaysia Sdn Bhd. She loves animals, especially dogs!

Poh Jingwen, also known as Nicole turned 22 on the 4th of April. She is also majoring in Chemical Engineering. She recently completed her industrial training with Plexus Manufacturing Sdn Bhd. Nicole enjoys reading during her leisure time.

Our fifth member is Lee Carmen who will soon turns 22 on December 16th. She is currently studying Chemical Engineering. She has recently completed her internship in Negeri Sembilan at UB Acrylic (M) Sdn Bhd. She has a strong interest in Korean culture - K-Pop.
